Long-time Talk and Total parent, Jane Ball, was interviewed for Garner TV’s program, Around Town. Produced monthly for the Town of Garner NC, the show airs on Garner’s Channel 11, on their website at GarnerNC.gov, and also from their YouTube channel.
March’s edition featured the interview with Ball. The interview, conducted by Mayor Ronnie Williams, allowed Ball to speak about much of her experiences in raising a child with Down syndrome. For many years, her daughter, Caroline, has been coming to Talk and Total Communication. Caroline has inspired Ball to start the Caroline Ball Family Fund, and its annual 5K/10K race. Caroline’s Catch Me If You Can Mother’s Day 5K, now in its fifth year, has raised over $73,000 for the Fund. And as Ball puts it, “I never know where Caroline will take me next.”
These journeys would happen to include a recent trip to China her and her family would take when they were invited by the YangAi Parent Club to visit their center located in Guangzhou, China. (Plans are underway to invite a Chinese family with a Down syndrome child to visit North Carolina sometime next fall.)

Ball and her family were asked to join Talk and Total’s Dr. Thomas Layton and Dr. Grace Hao on the annual trip to China, in November 2011. Layton and Hao take the annual trip to China to help train local parents of children with Down syndrome and the professionals who work with Down syndrome patients.
Here is the portion of the Around Town interview where Ball recounts her family’s trip to China. She even mentions Dr. Tom. You can also watch the interview, in its entirety, by clicking here.
