With over 40 years of experience, we are a team of certified and licensed speech-language pathologists. We are first and foremost clinicians: serving children and families with speech, language, feeding/swallowing, and oral-motor concerns. We are teachers: having taught at universities, nationally, and internationally. We are researchers: having published articles, books, tests, and language programs. We are consultants and advisers for school districts, local Autism societies, and the Triangle Down Syndrome Network. We are bilingual interpreters, in both Spanish and Chinese. And we are specialists in literacy for children with communication impairments.
Talk and Total Communication provides speech, language, and literacy services for infant-toddlers, preschoolers, school-age children, and adults with communication disorders. These services include assessments as well as treatments. We work on location in schools, day cares, private homes, as well as in our Durham Center. We specialize in individuals with Down syndrome, autism, speech and language impairments, feeding/swallowing and oral-motor issues, and bilinguals who speak Spanish or Chinese.
Play is the brain's way of learning is our motto at Talk and Total. And the ELF Program is our primary method of operation. Developed by Dr. Layton, the ELF Program is an early intervention treatment program that utilizes interactions to enhance social-communication skills in children. Our treatment program for feeding/swallowing and oral-motor is individualized for each child's needs.
